How Air Rivet Guns Work

An air rivet gun consists of a body with a handle and trigger mechanism, connected via an air hose to a compressor or centralized compressed air supply. When the trigger is pulled, this opens the air inlet valve, directing air flow into the cylinder chamber. The pressurized air drives the piston mechanism to shoot forward impacting the rear of the rivet set. This strikes the rivet with immense instantaneous force, up to several thousand pounds depending on the gun's striking power.

This force upsets and flares out the tail of the rivet as it drives the rivet into the workpiece, clinching the materials together in deformation. The cycle is completed as the air vents out and the piston retracts automatically to its original position.
